Getting a Domain Name with VALUE DOMAIN

Authors

Even if you do not buy a domain name, you can still access a website directly by typing its IP address. Still, having a domain name is convenient in many ways. You can even use it as part of Java or Scala package names.

For my site, daisukekobayashi.com is the domain name and the actual IP address is 54.249.253.45. The goal is to obtain a domain name and map it to that IP address. Once you have your own domain, you can access the site by name instead of by IP. If you click the links below, both of them reach the top page.

This time I got the domain through VALUE DOMAIN.

I chose VALUE DOMAIN partly because it had a good reputation and partly because I wanted to select eNom as the registrar. VALUE DOMAIN itself is only a registration agency. You still choose the actual registrar separately.

  1. First, create an account.
  2. From the domain operations menu on the login screen, click Get a new domain.
  3. Enter the domain you want under the desired domain name field and search.
  4. Click Proxy publish registrant information. This is useful because normally registering a domain requires you to publish personal information such as your address on the web, but with this option VALUE DOMAIN's information is published on your behalf.
  5. I selected With forwarding function (ENOM / higher price) as the registrar option.

For AWS, after acquiring a fixed IP with Elastic IP, I entered that IP as the target under DNS record / URL forwarding settings.
